The English past player, who is remembered from Leeds United of the 1960s and 1970s, passed away today after succumbing to the infectious virus. Was a co-winner of England’s 1966 World Cup

Norman Hunter, one of England’s most prominent and beloved players, passed away this morning (Friday) at the age of 76, after a fight against the Coronavirus. Hunter was taken to hospital in England a week ago after a positive for the virus and was unable to recover despite medical treatment.

Hunter was a star in Leeds United of the 1960s and ’70s, playing media for 14 years. He made his club debut in 1962 and, together with the team, won two championships, the FA Cup, the League Cup and two FA Cups. Hunter made 726 appearances in Leeds uniform across all frames, reaching the final of the 1975 Champions League final. Later in his career, he played for Bristol City and Barnsley. In Leeds Twitter account with them was most recognizable, this morning he eulogized:

Hunter made 28 appearances in the England national team and was a co-winner of the World Cup in ’66 but did not receive a medal because he did not open in 11 and partner as a substitute. He was nicknamed “The Bite of the Legs” following a sign that waved Leeds fans in the FA Cup final against Arsenal, which read “Norman will bite your feet.” After retirement, he began a coaching career he completed in the early 1990s.
