One of the most crowded prisons in the world. In 2016, 174 prisoners escaped after a revolt broke out inside the prison walls, during which one of the prison guards was killed and many others were injured.
The Maula Prison, Malawi
If there is a prison you do not want to reach, that’s it. The cells of 60 people are crammed with about 200, one toilet for every 120 people, food is served once a day due to budget constraints and one tap with running water for every 900 people. Want to drink? Stand in line and wait a few hours.
Norgerhaven Prison, Netherlands
In this prison every prisoner has his own room with a bed, television, toilet and more. In fact, due to low crime rates in the Netherlands, this prison is so unpopulated that it has recently begun to absorb prisoners from Norway.
ADX Florence, United States
A federal prison and a secure supermarket located in the Rocky Mountains. The prison that was opened in 1994 settles high-risk security prisoners, which are dangerous to the “regular” prisons. The prisoners have one hour a day outside the cell, while they use them for showers and a short walk in the yard.
